A RESOLUTION DECLARING & CONFERRING THE TITLE
“ADOPTED SON OF OLONGAPO” TO HONORABLE
WILLIAM D. SESSOMS, MAYOR OF VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA, USA FOR HIS OUTSTANDING
CONTRIBUTIONS IN FORGING THE SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP WITH OLONGAPO CITY AND
HIS LEADERSHIP IN PROMOTING TRADE RELATIONS, TOURISM & EDUCATIONAL-CULTURAL EXCHANGES BETWEEN THE
TWO CITIES.
WHEREAS, Honorable
Mayor William D. Sessoms has been the key figure in establishing the deepening
ties between Olongapo City and Virginia Beach
which started in September 2013 wherein Olongapo City
was invited to the 50th Founding Anniversary of Virginia Beach.
WHEREAS, under the
leadership of Honorable Mayor Sessoms, Virginia Beach has initiated and
supported programs, trade visits and community efforts which contributed to
better relationships and understanding between our cities and its people
resulting in the following:
·
The
donation of 4 rescue boats to the City of Olongapo .
·
The Olongapo City
student exchange visit to Virginia
Beach last March 2014
·
The
various trade missions and tourism activities
·
The Virginia Beach – Tallwood High School
student exchange visit to Olongapo this October 2014.
WHEREAS, Honorable Mayor William Sessoms has been a
gregarious supporter of Filipino-American programs and activities in Virginia Beach , joining
celebrations like Filipino-American Friendship Day and Philippine Independence
Day including events at the Philippine Cultural Center;
WHEREAS, Honorable Mayor Sessoms has not only championed the
causes of Filipino-American community but also its leaders. Mayor Sessoms and
his administration supports the promotion of minority businesses including
Filipino-American companies, small-medium enterprises which contributes in
creating jobs and opportunities for Virginia
Beach
WHEREAS, the Sister City Relationship between Virginia Beach
and Olongapo City has achieved its purpose, which is to build better
international understanding, friendships, cultural and educational exchanges
and economic tourist development activities.
WHEREAS, William D. "Will" Sessoms, Jr. is the
current mayor, a former Vice Mayor, a former City Councilman and Businessman of
Virginia Beach, Virginia. He served on the Virginia Beach City Council from
1988–2002 and served as Vice Mayor of the city from 1992–2002. In 2008, he was
elected mayor. He was re-elected in 2012 as Mayor.
NOW, THEREFORE, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang
Panlungsod present;
RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session
assembled to declare & confer as it hereby declares & confers the title
“Adopted Son Of Olongapo” to Honorable
William D. Sessoms, Mayor Of Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA for his outstanding
contributions in forging the Sister City relationship with Olongapo City and
his leadership in promoting trade relations, tourism & educational-cultural exchanges between the
two cities.

this Resolution be furnished to Honorable William D. Sessoms, Mayor of Virginia
Beach, Virginia, USA for his information
and record.
