RESOLUTION NO. 96

A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT TO THE CITY’S PARTICIPATION IN THE CITIES DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (CDI) – STRENGTHENING URBAN RESILIENCE FOR GROWTH WITH EQUITY (SURGE) PROJECT UNDER THE UNITED STATES AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (USAID)

WHEREAS, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is the lead U.S. Government agency that works to end extreme global poverty and enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential;

WHEREAS, USAID’s programs in the Philippines focus on accelerating and sustaining inclusive economic growth through Partnership for Growth (PFG) activities in the areas of governance, economic growth, health and education, and environmental resilience;

WHEREAS, USAID’s Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project is an activity of the Cities Development Initiative (CDI) under the PFG, a five-year, $47 million project which aims to foster the development of conditions for broad-based, inclusive and resilient economic growth for a critical mass of cities and surrounding areas outside Metro Manila;

WHEREAS, there are currently six cities included in the CDI – Batangas, Puerto Princesa, Iloilo, Tagbilaran, Cagayan De Oro and Zamboanga and USAID intends to select three to six (3-6) additional cities within the year;

WHEREAS, the City Government of Olongapo has expressed its interest in joining the CDI – SURGE Project and its inclusion in the Project will still require further assessment and validation of the SURGE Project officials;

WHEREAS, USAID has formally required the City Government of Olongapo to issue a City Council Resolution expressing support to the City’s participation in the CDI – SURGE Project;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of City Councilor Jerome Michael S. Bacay, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

RESOLVED, AS IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to express support as it hereby expresses support to the City’s participation in the Cities Development Initiative (CDI) – Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
