RESOLUTION NO. 41
(Series of 2006)

A RESOLUTION STRONGLY SUPPORTING THE STRICT COMPLIANCE WITH
THE PROVISIONS OF REPUBLIC ACT 9257 OTHERWISE KNOWN AS “THE EXPANDED SENIOR CITIZENS ACT OF 2003”


WHEREAS, Republic Act 7432 otherwise known as “Act to Maximize the Contributions of Senior Citizens to Nation Building, Grant Benefits and Special Privileges and For Other Purposes enacted in 1994 was an integrated and comprehensive approach to address the needs and concerns of the elderly in our community as stated under our constitution;

WHEREAS, Olongapo City Ordinance No. 3, Series of 1996 entitled,” An Ordinance Making It Punishable For Any Establishment, Service Utility and Private or Public Institution Who Refuses to Grant The Privileges and Benefits Due Senior Citizens as Provided For Under R.A. 7432” was passed to deter non-compliance after several complaints from senior citizens;

WHEREAS, R.A. 9257 otherwise known as “The Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003” or “An Act Granting Additional Benefits and Privileges To Senior Citizens Amending For The Purpose R.A. 7432” was enacted in 2003;

WHEREAS, Section 4 of R.A. 9257 states the privileges for senior citizens and its application is under the guidelines on Rule V of the Implementing Rules & Regulations of R.A. 9257 and by the DOH Administrative Order No.177, series of 2004;

WHEREAS, due to the growing number of complaints from senior citizens, there is a need to reiterate strict compliance to R.A. 9257 to those mandated by law;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Angelina B. Andrada, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to support, as it hereby strongly supports the strict compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 9257 otherwise known as “The Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2003”.

RESOLVED FURTHER, AS IT IS HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED, that the photocopy of Sections 4 and 10 of R.A. 9257, Rule V of the IRR of R.A. 9257 and DOH Administrative Order No. 177, Series of 2004 be made as integral parts of this resolution.
