RESOLUTION NO. 85
(Series of 2009)

A RESOLUTION CALLING ALL BARANGAYS IN THE CITY TO CREATE AN ANTI-DENGUE TASK FORCE

WHEREAS, dengue is an acute infectious tropical disease caused by an arbovirus transmitted by the Aedes species of mosquitoes and is characterized by high fever, rashes, headache, and severe muscle and joint pain;

WHEREAS, it is one of the most common mosquito-borne viral diseases in humans and is considered to be a major public health concern in Southeast Asia and other areas in the world where it is endemic;

WHEREAS, about 50 million cases of infection are recorded yearly, including 500,000 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and 22,000 deaths, mostly occurring among children;

WHEREAS, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III launched a nationwide Department of Health (DOH) anti-dengue campaign;

WHEREAS, the anti-dengue campaign is aimed at raising the public’s awareness of the threat of dengue and the role of the community and other stakeholders in the prevention of outbreaks;

WHEREAS, the aforesaid campaign proposes the creation of anti-dengue task force which shall be responsible in arresting one of the nationwide climate-sensitive diseases to eliminate leading cause of hospitalization and death among children in the grassroots level;

WHEREAS, barangay officials have the immediate and direct contact with their constituents to intensify preventive measures and boost the information and educational campaigns against dengue;

WHEREAS, the seventeen Barangays and the City Health Office have various activities in progress to combat dengue in their respective jurisdiction;

WHEREAS, to further eliminate and aspire for zero Dengue case in this multi-awarded city where health is one of its priorities, an Anti Dengue Task Force can be formally organized to consistently fight the said deadly disease;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Gina Gulanes Perez, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to call, as it hereby calls all Barangays in the City to create an Anti-Dengue Task Force.

Let copies of this Resolution be given to the seventeen (17) barangays and City Health Officials in Olongapo City for their information and appropriate action.
