RESOLUTION NO. 129

A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING ALMA “Pearly” G. BULAWAN AS “AMBASSADOR OF GOODWILL” OF THE CITY OF OLONGAPO IN CONNECTION WITH THE 7TH MEETING OF THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S NETWORK ON SEPTEMBER 14 TO 19, 2009 AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF GUAM, MANGILAO, GUAM, U.S.A.

WHEREAS, since last year 1997, women from all over the globe gather for a meeting that discusses peace, security and to advance gender equality, and now, the upcoming 7th Meeting of the International Women’s Network will take place in the University of Guam, Mangilao, Guam, U.S.A., with the theme: “CHINEMMA, NINA MAOLEK YAN INARESPETU PARA DIRECHON TAOTAO” (Resistance, Resilience and Respect for Human Rights),

WHEREAS, the Philippine Delegation to the said meeting will be composed of seven (7) women representing Non Governmental Organizations of the country and the City of Olongapo is very privileged to have three (3) out of the seven (7) that will be members of the delegation,

WHEREAS, Alma “Pearly” G. Bulawan is the Chairperson of BUKLOD CENTER, a People’s Organization that combats Women Prostitution here in our City.

WHEREAS, Alma “Pearly”G. Bulawan has been awarded by the Soroptimist International; a world-wide organization for women in management and profession, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women; as one of the “UNSUNG WOMEN HEROES” last 16 April 2009, considering her efforts and contributions for the upliftment of women’s rights and her initiative to campaign for women’s rightful place to the social, political and economic paradigm. In addition to, she was also recognized by Kilos Kabaro in 2005 in celebration of the 100 years of Feminism in the Philippines.

WHEREAS, for this year’s meeting, Alma “Pearly” G. Bulawan will be one of the presenters of the issue entitled: “BEYOND MILITARY ECONOMY: Exploring Alternatives for Sustainability” together with her international counterparts from the countries of Sydney, Australia; Perth, Australia and the Republic of Belau.

WHEREAS, being designated as this City’s “Ambassador of Goodwill”, Alma “Pearly” G. Bulawan is tasked to contribute beneficial insights and learning that will transcribe from that meeting, in collaboration with the Committee on Human Rights and the Committee on the Protection of Women, Family and Gender Equality in pursuance of the aims and goals carried by their organization for the benefit of the People of Olongapo.

WHEREAS, it is not only of pride and prestige that would befall on the city to have Alma “Pearly” G. Bulawan as one of the Philippine Delegates, but rather, remarkable contribution will be made to the international community through her insights that would transcend our city’s excellence to the whole world.

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Elena C. Dabu, co-sponsored by Councilor Sarah Lugerna F. Lipumano-Garcia, M.D., with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED AS IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in a session assembled to designate, as it is hereby designates Alma “Pearly” G. Bulawan as “Ambassador of Goodwill” of the City of Olongapo in Connection with the 7th Meeting of the International Women’s Network on September 14 to 19, 2009 at the University of Guam, Mangilao, Guam, U.S.A.
