RESOLUTION NO. 104

A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SUBIC BAY METROPOLITAN AUTHORITY (SBMA) TO PRESERVE ALL HISTORICAL RELICS RELATED TO OLONGAPO CITY FROM THE SPANISH, AMERICAN, JAPANESE ERAS TO THE MOST
RECENT PAST (OVER LAND OR SEA)
WHEREAS, the now SBMA is the former Subic Naval Base which was converted into a Naval Facility until its turn over to the Philippine Government in full last November 1992. By virtue of the abrogation of the RP-US Treaty stating that no foreign military base shall exist in the Philippine territory, hence forward;
WHEREAS, during those times there are many enriched memories memorabilia’s and relics left which are important to the history of Olongapeños. These are necessary to be preserved for the knowledge of the future generation so they can learn from it;
WHEREAS, some of these relics are sunken ships which provided underwater marine life such as fish and corals as part of its natural habitat. These have become the interest of tourists especially engaged in snorkeling and deep sea diving. These are invaluable to the development of tourism attraction in the area;
WHEREAS, a US Airplane is also available to be seen, another relic of the US Air Force and a testimony of the use of the former base in its protection of peace in the Pacific Region;
WHEREAS, another testimony of the participation Filipinos in World War II are the big guns in Grande Island;
WHEREAS, the City Charter of Olongapo City also known as R.A. 4645 includes: Grande, Mayanga and Chiquita Islands in its territorial jurisdiction;
WHEREAS, Tappan Park and the Chapel are landmarks of the community in those times that Olongapeños inhabit these areas as well as the former Camila Simpson Hospital now known as the Admiral’s Quarter also known as Whitehouse near Tappan Park;

WHEREAS, in the recent past monuments, shrines of volunteers were erected as testimonials of Volunteerism and Cooperation inside the Subic Freeport with the nearby communities surrounding SBMA, the reason for its initial creation and success;
NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Cynthia G. Cajudo, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,
RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to request, as it hereby requests the SBMA Board to enact the preservation of all historical relics available in its jurisdiction from the Spanish, American, Japanese Eras and the most recent past when SBMA was in its infancy nurtured by the volunteers of Olongapo, Zambales and Bataan and preserve the pristine status of its marine environment.
Let copies of this Resolution be furnished the National Historical Commission, Philippine Tourism Authority, the Office of the President and other National Agencies, House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines for their information, record and support
