RESOLUTION NO. 178
(Series of 2009)

A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SINCEREST CONDOLENCES AND HEARTFELT PRAYERS TO THE BEREAVED FAMILY OF FORMER MAYOR AMELIA J. GORDON AND RECOGNIZING HER INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF OLONGAPO

WHEREAS, Madame Amelia J. Gordon passed on peacefully to rejoin her Creator on November 17, 2009 at the age of 90;

WHEREAS, Ma’am Amelia, a great Filipina, is the Mother of Olongapo, its First Lady Mayor, Assemblywoman, Batasang Pambansa (1984-1986) and among others, an International Awardee of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation;

WHEREAS, Mrs. Amelia Gordon showed commitment in improving the quality of life of women and children particularly orphans, Amerasians and minorities all her life;

WHEREAS, as Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), City Chapter Chair, Hon. Amelia J. Gordon was honored with a Gold Humanitarian Service Award for her dedicated volunteer service in carrying out PNRC mission to bring timely, effective and compassionate humanitarian assistance for the most vulnerable in the society, regardless of nationality, race, creed, gender, social status and political belief;

WHEREAS, the passing away of Madame Amelia is a great loss, not only to the Gordon family, Olongapeños but to the Filipino nation;

WHEREAS, the officials and residents of the City of Olongapo, join the Gordon family in their grief and sorrow over the passing away of its beacon;

NOW, THEREFORE, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled to express, as it hereby expresses sincerest condolences and heartfelt prayers to the bereaved family of former Mayor Amelia J. Gordon and recognizing her invaluable contributions to the City of Olongapo.

RESOLVED FURTHER, AS IT IS HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED, that as a sign of mourning, honor and respect to the late Mayor Gordon, the Sangguniang Panlungsod hereby requests the National Historical Institute that Philippine Flags be flown at half-mast in all buildings and places where they are displayed in the City of Olongapo for a period of six (6) days commencing 19 November 2009 until 24 November 2009.

Let copies of this Resolution be furnished the family of Amelia J. Gordon and the National Historical Institute.
