A RESOLUTION ADOPTING PROCLAMATION NO. 1906 DECLARING OCTOBER OF  EACH  YEAR AS NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES MONTH AND FURTHER ADOPT  PROCLAMATION NO. 486, DECLARING OCTOBER 29  OF EACH YEAR AS NATIONAL INDIGENOUS PEOPLES THANKSGIVING  DAY IN THE CITY OF OLONGAPO

            WHEREAS, in observance of the 17^th year of the enactment of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) of 1997 also known as Republic Act of 1997, recognizing the IPRA and Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines, Proclamation No. 1906 has been issued and declared October of each month as National Indigenous Peoples Month. Further, Proclamation No. 486 was issued declaring October 29 of each year as National Indigenous Peoples Thanksgiving Day;

WHEREAS, in observance of the said Thanksgiving Day,  the National Commission will have a nationwide synchronized celebration of the National  Indigenous  Peoples Thanksgiving Day. The IPs will troop at Mt. Pinatubo, a legendary place of the Aetas of Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga, as the center of their activity;

WHEREAS, the Olongapo City Government through the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative will celebrate the said event, oordinating with the IP leaders and elders within its jurisdiction to join the said celebration to give importance and accord due recognition of, and focus attention on this event;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of City Councilor Egmidio Gonzales, Jr.,  with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

         RESOLVED, AS IT HEREBY RESOLVED,  by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled to adopt as it hereby adopts  Proclamation No. 1906 declaring October of each year  as National Indigenous Peoples Month and further adopt Proclamation No. 486, declaring October 29 of each year as National Indigenous Peoples Thanksgiving Day in the City of Olongapo.
