A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JOSEPH RAPHAEL S. VERGARA FOR WINNING BRONZE MEDAL IN THE 11^TH ASIAN SCHOOLS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP AND SILVER MEDAL IN THE 16^TH ASEAN + AGE-GROUP CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP BOTH HELD AT NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY IN SINGAPORE LAST MAY 30-JUNE 8, 2015 AND JUNE 8-17, 2015, RESPECTIVELY

WHEREAS, Joseph Raphael S. Vergara reaped the Bronze medal in the Open Under-7 Blitz Category and finished 4^th in the Open Under-7 Standard Category in the 11^th Asian Schools Chess Championship held at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore last May 30-June 8, 2015;

WHEREAS, Joseph Raphael Vergara’s bronze medal completed the Philippine Team’s Over-all Champion standing in the said international chess event participated by a total of three hundred sixty (360) players from nineteen (19) countries;

WHEREAS, immediately following the 11^th Asian Schools Chess Championship, Joseph Raphael Vergara with the Philippine Team competed in the 16^th ASEAN + Age-Group Chess Championship also held at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore from June 8-17, 2015, where he garnered the Silver Medal in the Under-9 Blitz Category. The Philippine Team finished Second Place with 26 Gold, 42 Silver and 17 Bronze Medals;

WHEREAS, the 16^th ASEAN +Age-Group Chess Championship is the flagship event of the ASEAN Chess Confederation (ACC) which for many years now have been the most eagerly awaited event in the region. For this year, participants have reached four hundred fifty two (452) players from sixteen (16) countries which included on ASEAN Countries- Australia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Korea;

WHEREAS, Joseph Raphael Vergara is born on December 23, 2008 in Olongapo City to parents Janeth Solomon and Joel Vergara and is presently a Grade-one student at Olongapo Wesley School;

  

WHEREAS, only six years old, Joseph Raphael Vergara brought Olongapo City to the international chess map with his impressive feats in the two international chess events;

WHEREAS, this young lad’s determination and perseverance serves as a shining example for fellow Olongapeños to follow and emulate;

WHEREAS, his outstanding performance in the athletic arena which brought honor and pride to Olongapo City and the entire country, deserves recognition and commendation;

NOW, THEREFORE, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED, AS IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to commend as it hereby commends Joseph Raphael S. Vergara for winning Bronze medal in the 11^th Asian Schools Chess championship and Silver medal in the 16^th ASEAN+Age-Group Chess Championship both held at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore last May 30-June 8, 2015 and June 8-17, 2015, respectively.
