A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING SENATE BILL NO. 3061 WHICH SEEKS TO AMEND REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9257 OR THE SENIOR CITIZENS ACT OF 2003 BY EXEMPTING SENIOR CITIZENS FROM THE TWELVE PERCENT VALUE ADDED TAX ON MEDICINES
WHEREAS, there has been persistent clamor from various Senior Citizens’ Group in the country to promote the Cheaper Medicines Law;
WHEREAS, while it is true that the twenty percent discount privilege accorded to Senior Citizens eased their financial burdens, the imposition of twelve percent Extended Value Added Tax on the sale of goods and services diminished its effect;
WHEREAS, most of our Senior Citizens have no steady source of income after retirement, the twenty percent discount and exemption from the twelve percent Extended Value Added Tax would be a great help to them;
WHEREAS, the bill will also impose higher penalty for persons who will abuse the privileges and incentives as well as persons who refuse to give Senior Citizens’ Value Added Tax Exemptions;
NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Anselmo A. Aquino, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;
RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to support as it is hereby supports Senate Bill No. 3061 which seeks to amend Republic Act No. 9257 or the Senior Citizens Act of 2003 by Exempting Senior Citizens from the twelve percent Value Added Tax on Medicines.
