WHEREAS, the United States Government relinquished its control over Olongapo on December 7, 1959;

WHEREAS, through Executive Order No. 366 of then President Carlos P. Garcia, Olongapo became a municipality;

WHEREAS, after its independence, Olongapo became a Chartered City through Republic Act 4645 and Olongapo City has flourished until it became a Highly Urbanized City in December 7, 1983;

WHEREAS, the City intends to celebrate this significant event in the City’s history and plans to hold activities that will be attended by local and national government employees, non-governmental organizations, students, and officials of educational institutions;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of City Councilor Edwin J. Piano, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to enact the following Ordinance:

AN ORDINANCE DECLARING DECEMBER 7, 2009 AS A SPECIAL WORKING HOLIDAY IN OLONGAPO CITY IN CELEBRATION OF THE CITY’S 50TH TURN-OVER ANNIVERSARY FROM THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT AND 26TH YEARS ANNIVERSARY AS HIGHLY URBANIZED CITY

BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE SANGGUNIANG PANLUNGSOD IN SESSION ASSEMBLED, THAT:

SECTION 1. December 7, 2009 is hereby declared as a Special Working Holiday in the City of Olongapo in celebration of its 50th Turn Over-Anniversary from the American Government and 26th years anniversary as Highly Urbanized City.

SECTION 2. That copies of this Ordinance be furnished to all concerned local and national agencies within the territorial jurisdiction of Olongapo City, NGOs, educational institutions, and barangay officials of the City for their information and guidance.

SECTION 3. REPEALING CLAUSE/ PROVISIONS. All ordinances, resolutions, executive orders and other issuances which are inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed and rendered unenforceable.

SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
