RESOLUTION NO. 134
(Series of 2006)

A RESOLUTION STRONGLY SUPPORTING THE JUNIOR CHAMBER INTERNATIONAL-OLONGAPO (OLONGAPO JAYCEES INCORPORATED) TO HOST THE 2006 JCIP NATIONAL CONVENTION AS WELL AS THE 2006 JCIP-OLONGAPO CONFERENCE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE (COC)

WHEREAS, Junior Chamber International-Philippines is a worldwide leadership organization, an entity existing in accordance with the laws of the Philippines;

WHEREAS, JCI-Olongapo for short is one of the local organization movements under the umbrella of JCI-Philippines;

WHEREAS, the JCI-Philippines have been in the forefront of all projects, activities, meetings and conventions of different local organization movements all over the Philippines;

WHEREAS, the conduct of a convention whether the same pertains to national, areas, or regions is usually given to the local organization movement who submitted their bid and won thereat;

WHEREAS, the JCI-Olongapo through the assistance of the City Government of Olongapo under the leadership of Mayor James J. Gordon, Jr. who himself a past president, National Convention Director and Senator appropriated the amount of Seventy Thousand Pesos (PhP70,000.00) pursuant to Ordinance No. 19, Series of 2004 to submit a bid for the hosting of 2006 National Convention, as in fact submitted its bid for the said hosting during 2004 National Convention held at Boracay, Aklan last October 2004:

WHEREAS, the JCI-Olongapo was able to take the opportunity to host the 2006 JCIP National Convention by winning the bidding process;

WHEREAS, thereafter, organizational meetings were held to formulate the policies and programs for the hosting of 2006 JCIP National Convention;

WHEREAS, 2005 Board of Directors has passed a Resolution naming JCI Senator and Past National President John Jimenez as the National Convention Director and JCI Member Des Yambao as the Co-Director for the 2006 National Convention;

WHEREAS, as part of the JCIP tradition, the JCI-Olongapo has sponsored one night during the 2005 JCIP National Convention in Davao through the assistance of the Past National President JCI Senator John Jimenez;

WHEREAS, after almost months of preparation, establishing the 2006 National Convention Website, securing support from different sponsors, attending seminars, meeting and assemblies for the purpose of inviting delegates to attend the forthcoming JCIP National Convention, on June 22, 2006 JCI Member Kenneth R. Peralta LOM President received a fax copy of a letter issued by JCIP Executive Committee through the National Secretary General and National President informing the former the cancellation of the hosting by the JCI-Olongapo of the 2006 JCIP National Convention to be held in the City of Olongapo;

WHEREAS, immediately upon receipt of the said letter, JCI Member Kenneth R. Peralta and JCIP-Olongapo Conference Organizing Committee submitted their answer citing several groundwork activities showing the readiness to hold the annual event;

WHEREAS, the cancellation of the said annual convention which is to be held in the City of Olongapo, despite the groundwork that had already been laid, was assessed to affect adversely not only the tourism and economic aspects of the event but the good name of the JCI Olongapo in particular and the City of Olongapo in general;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Noël Y. Atienza co-sponsored by Councilors Marey Beth D. Marzan, Brian Patrick H. Gordon and Gina G. Perez, with the unanimous accord of Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to strongly support, as it hereby strongly supports the Junior Chamber International-Olongapo (Olongapo Jaycees, Incorporated) to host the 2006 JCIP National Convention as well as the 2006 JCIP-Olongapo Conference Organizing Committee (COC).

Let copies of this Resolution be furnished the JCI-Philippines National Board Office, 2006 JCIP National President, JCIP Executive Committee and JCI-Olongapo Chapter.
