WHEREAS, the 2008 Subic Marathon will be held on January 20, 2008 in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and Olongapo City with an expected participation of 5,000 international and local runners;

WHEREAS, this international event is a boost to the city’s business and tourism as it puts Olongapo once again into the international scene;

WHEREAS, the organizers wrote a letter to the Office of The City Mayor, Honorable James “Bong” Gordon, Jr. requesting support to host the 5-kilometer category, wherein over 1,500 runners will run from the Subic Bay Freeport via RM Drive and Rizal Avenue, turning around symbolically at the Ulo ng Apo Rotonda and proceeding back to the Freeport;

WHEREAS, the Office of the Traffic Management & Public Safety endorsed a traffic plan in conjunction with the 2008 Subic Marathon.

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Aquilino Y. Cortez Jr., with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to enact the following Ordinance:

ORDINANCE NO. 03

AN ORDINANCE TEMPORARILY CLOSING THE WHOLE STRETCH OF RM DRIVE AND RIZAL AVENUE FROM SBMA RIZAL GATE TO ULO NG APO ROTONDA ON JANUARY 20, 2008 AS OLONGAPO CITY HOSTS THE
2008 SUBIC MARATHON

BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE SANGGUNIANG PANLUNGSOD IN SESSION ASSEMBLED, THAT:

SECTION 1. The whole stretch of RM Drive and Rizal Avenue from SBMA Rizal Gate to Ulo ng Apo Rotonda are hereby declared temporarily closed from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on January 20, 2008.

SECTION 2. The temporary road closure will be used for the 2008 Subic Marathon.

SECTION 3. The Office of the Traffic Management and Public Safety will recommend the necessary routing of vehicles during the said temporary road closure.

SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
