A
RESOLUTION OF UNITY AND SOBRIETY WITH THE FILIPINO NATION IN MOURNING
OVER THE SUDDEN DEATH OF HONORABLE JESSE MANALASTAS ROBREDO, SECRETARY
OF THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND EXPRESSING OLONGAPO
CITY’S DEEPEST SYMPATHIES TO HIS BEREAVED FAMILY
WHEREAS, prior to his appointment to
the Cabinet, he served six terms as Mayor of Naga City, Camarines Sur starting
I988 and hailed as one of the youngest Local Chief Executive at the age of
twenty-nine (29);
WHEREAS, Secretary Robredo obtained his
undergraduate degrees in Industrial Management Engineering and Mechanical
Engineering at the De La Salle University. He was an Edward Mason Fellow and a
graduate of Masters of Public Administration at John F. Kennedy School of
Government at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1999. In 1985,
he finished his Masters in Business Administration at the University of the
Philippines-Diliman, Quezon City, as a scholar and was named the Graduate
School and Faculty Organization awardee for scholarly excellence;
WHEREAS, Secretary Jesse Manalastas
Robredo was conferred an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree by the Far
Eastern University in Manila and was a recipient of various commendations and
awards for being a catalyst of good governance and an advocate of Liberal
Democracy as follows: “Dangal ng Bayan” Award of the Civil Service Commission
in March 2008; Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service (known to be Asia’s
version of the Nobel Prize) in 2000; Konrad Adenauer Medal of Excellence as
Most Outstanding City Mayor of the Philippines in 1998; Junior Chamber
International (JCI) Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) Honoree
in 1994; Junior Chamber of the Philippines (JCI- Philippines ) The Outstanding
Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM) in 1990;
WHEREAS, he was not just a good public
servant but also a dedicated and exceptional family man. He was married to
Atty. Maria Leonor Gerona-Robredo and blessed with three daughters namely:
Patricia, Jessica and Jillian;
WHEREAS, Secretary Jesse Manalastas
Robredo encountered his untimely demise in an accident during his flight
home-bound to Naga City through a Piper Seneca (RPC-4431) after making an
engagement in the National Summit of Volunteers working with the Criminal
Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at Cebu International Convention
Center;
WHEREAS, the Filipino People, Olongapo
city citizens in particular, is at present in a state of mourning over his
death;
NOW, THEREFORE, with the unanimous
accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,
RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by
the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled to approve, as it hereby
approves, A Resolution of Unity and Sobriety with the Filipino Nation in
Mourning over the Sudden Death of Honorable Jesse Manalastas Robredo, Secretary
of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Expressing Olongapo
City’s Deepest Sympathies to His Bereaved Family.
Let
copies of this Resolution be furnished Attorney Maria Leonor Gerona-Robredo and
family and the Department of the Interior and Local Government for posterity.
