RESOLUTION NO. 144
(Series of 2006)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE OLONGAPO YOUTH CHOIR FOR WINNING THE SILVER VIII AWARD IN THE PRESTIGIOUS 4TH WORLD CHOIR GAMES AT XIAMEN, CHINA ON JULY 15 TO 26, 2006


WHEREAS, German-Chinese cooperation stroke cords with choirs around the globe as they pave way to the 4th World Choir games, known as “Choir Olympics” on July 15 to 26, 2006 at Xiamen, China;

WHEREAS, the Olongapo Youth Choir, one of the 400 choirs from 80 nations and among its 2000 participants, gathered to enjoy the hospitality of Xiamen under the motto “Singing Together Brings Nations Together”;

WHEREAS, competing under the mixed youth choir category, the Olongapo Youth Choir earned the amazement and admiration of the international community as they bagged the Silver VIII award with their rendition of soulful choral music;

WHEREAS, the Olongapo Youth Choir, under the baton of trainer Ms. Jenivee T. Tolentino is composed of high school students ages 12 to 19 from the Olongapo City National High School, mostly under the Special Program for the Arts (SPA) curriculum and some alumni;

WHEREAS, before the said choir Olympics, these young musical contingent who made waves in the local choral arena, clinched the third place at the National Musical Competition for Young Artists (NMCYA) in the year 2005;

WHEREAS, armed with prayer and faith to the Almighty, the choir underwent extensive training despite very limited time and resources. Amidst all, they had moved the international chorale scene, competed against some of the finest choirs in the world and showcased their harmony and versatile repertoires. Through them, the Philippine flag had been hoisted once more in the arena of world artistic Olympics;

WHEREAS, the City is proud to have sent-off the lone Filipino delegate to the 4th World Choir Games, mixed youth choir category, the Olongapo Youth Choir and is doubly honored for the accomplishment they had given to Olongapo City;

NOW, THEREFORE, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sanguniang Panglungsod present:

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sanguniang Panglungsod in session assembled to commend, as it hereby commends the Olongapo Youth Choir for winning the Silver VIII Award in the prestigious 4th World Choir Games at Xiamen, China on July 15 to 26, 2006.

Let copies of this Resolution be furnished the Olongapo Youth Choir and Ms. Jenivee T. Tolentino, trainer/conductor for their information and record.
