RESOLUTION NO. 190

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CITY MAYOR JAMES GORDON, JR. TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) WITH PEACE CORPS REPRESENTED BY ITS COUNTRY DIRECTOR SONIA DERENONCOURT FOR THE PEACE CORPS RESPONSE PROGRAM

WHEREAS, Peace Corps, a Volunteer Organization established in 1960 aims to help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women;

WHEREAS, Peace Corps program in the Philippines is the second oldest in the Peace Corps history. It began with the arrival of 123 education volunteers in October 1961. Since then, more than 8,000 Volunteers have served in the Philippines;

WHEREAS, Peace Corps continued its projects in the Philippines addressing the country's development priorities through projects in youth, education, environment and business development;

WHEREAS, Peace Corps and Olongapo City agreed to collaborate on a Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation; to select, supervise and support experience Peace Corps Volunteers to work as Peace Corps Response Volunteers in the Philippines with the City Government of Olongapo;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of City Councilor Edwin J. Piano, in behalf of the majority party and with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present,

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to authorize as it hereby authorizes City Mayor James Gordon, Jr. to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Peace Corps represented by its Country Director Sonia Derenoncourt for the Peace Corps Response Program.
