A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LOCAL IGLESIA NI CRISTO FOR ITS CONTRIBUTION  TO  NATIONAL  AND  GLOBAL IGLESIA NI CRISTO IN THE SUCCESSFUL CONDUCT OF WORLDWIDE CHARITY WALK FOR THE VICTIM

OF SUPER TYPHOON YOLANDA AND FOR BREAKING THE GUINNESS BOOK

OF  WORLD  RECORD  FOR  THE  LARGEST CHARITY WALK DONE IN

TWENTY-FOUR (24) HOURS IN MULTIPLE VENUES AND BIGGEST

CHARITY WALK IN SINGLE VENUE.

            WHEREAS, Super Typhoon Yolanda ravaged the central islands of the Philippines, killing 6, 200 people, destroying 1.1 million homes, and rendering more than four million people homeless;

            WHEREAS, Iglesia ni Cristo, a world renowned Religious Organization spearheaded a fund raising drive dubbed as “Worldwide Walk for those Affected by Typhoon Yolanda”;

WHEREAS, the event, which was staged in 85 sites in the entire country and 55 other sites in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the United States with 519,221 confirmed participants sets two new world records, certified by Guinness Book of World Records Adjudicator Kirsty Bennett;

WHEREAS, the walkathon broke the record in the largest charity walk in multiple venues, more than doubling the previous record set in Canada seven years ago and the largest charity walk in one venue with some 175, 509 congregants marched in Manila breaking the record set 14 years ago in Singapore;

WHEREAS, Iglesia ni Cristo Olongapo Chapter participated in this momentous event with around six thousand marchers, including non-INC members, showing solidarity and willingness to sacrifice to help the typhoon victim rebuild their lives and alleviate their sufferings;

WHEREAS, the City of Olongapo recognizes the unselfish effort of the leadership of Iglesia ni Cristo and its faithful members to help fellow Filipinos who are in need;

NOW, THEREFORE,  with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to commend as it  hereby commends the Local Iglesia ni Cristo for its Contribution to National and Global Iglesia ni Cristo in the Successful Conduct of Worldwide Charity Walk for the Victim of Super Typhoon Yolanda and for Breaking the Guinness Book of World Record for The Largest Charity Walk Done in Twenty-Four (24) Hours in Multiple Venues and Biggest Charity Walk Single Venue.

TO ENTER, EXECUTE AND SIGN THE RENEWAL OF THE MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT, FOR AND ON BEHALF OF THE JAMES L. GORDON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (JLGMH), THIS CITY WITH COLUMBAN COLLEGE REPRESENTED

BY ITS PRESIDENT, REV. MSGR. CRISOSTOMO A. CACHO, VGPC, FOR THE AFFILIATION OF COLUMBAN COLLEGE NURSING STUDENTS, IN A

MANNER CONSISTENT WITH LAW

WHEREAS, the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH)  is a licensed tertiary care hospital of at least 300 bed capacity and 80 annual occupancy rate per month;

WHEREAS, Columban College, is a non stock college institution that accepts enrollees under B.S. Nursing course and related programs of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED);

WHEREAS, the pressing demand for health professionals in the global market, led to the growing number of enrollees to the said courses and a tertiary care capable hospital is necessary in complying to the Nursing Act of 2002 that requires nursing students to undergo Related-Learning-Experience, 1,632 hours of actual training in different areas/wards in a hospital;

WHEREAS, Columban College has been affiliated with James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital to assist its Bachelor of Science in Nursing students to accomplish the needed 1,632 hours as required by the Department of Health(DOH);

WHEREAS, there is a need to renew the affiliation with legislative sanction subject to compliance by Columban College with the requisite Department of Health guidelines;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of  City Councilor Eduardo G. Guerrero, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED,  by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to authorize, as it  hereby authorizes City Mayor, Hon. Rolen C. Paulino to enter, execute and sign the renewal of the Memorandum of Agreement, for and on behalf of the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH), this City with Columban College reprented by its President, Rev. Msgr. Crisostomo A. Cacho, VGPC, for the affiliation of Columban College Nursing Students, in a manner consistent with law.

A RESOLUTION STRONGLY URGING THE CITY MAYOR TO CAUSE THE IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF CHRISTMAS BAZAAR AT COLUMBAN STREET

WHEREAS, a Memorandum of Agreement was engaged by the City Mayor Honorable Rolen C. Paulino with Haniah and Aliah regarding the conduct of Christmas Bazaar from October 2013 to January 15, 2014;

WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 16, Series of 2013, “An Ordinance Temporarily Closing Portion Of Columban Street (Former Perimeter Street),  From The Corner Of Magsaysay (RM) Drive To The Corner Of Fendler Street  To Traffic Starting October 5, 2013 To January 15, 2014 As Venue For The  Olongapo City Christmas Bazaar 2013, Subject To Pertinent Laws” was also enacted, approved by the City Mayor on 18 October 2013;

WHEREAS, following the Memorandum of Agreement and the road closure ordinance wherein the effectivity of the operation of the Christmas Bazaar has already expired, it is but appropriate and timely for the City Council to urge the City Mayor for the immediate removal of the Christmas Bazaar located at Columban Street;

WHEREAS, local business establishments and local vendors who are legitimate taxpayers are also pleading for the removal of the Christmas Bazaar which has already served its purpose, since Christmas time has also already passed, and this is the time for the local businessmen to make up for the meager profit they had;

WHEREAS, the continuous operation of the Night Market/Christmas Bazaar on a non-yuletide season would cause further economic loss to local businessmen and vendors;
