WHEREAS, Article IV of Ordinance No. 36, Series of 2004 provides the courses offered at the city-owned and operated Gordon College;

WHEREAS, the said ordinance addresses the needs of the community especially the indigent ones, whose services from social workers are indispensable;

WHEREAS, the demand for social workers has increased primarily due to the fact that our government is now sincerely paying attention to the needs of our indigent people, who are aptly in need of the services of the government;

WHEREAS, it is but time for the Gordon College to introduce a new course that will be equally helpful for the people of the Olongapo and to the Gordon College as well;

WHEREAS, one of the requirements before a college can become a University, is that it must have at least three (3) courses with licensure exams, in which Gordon College has already two(2), Nursing and Accountancy courses;

WHEREAS, Gordon College will pioneer to offer such course since there are no other colleges in Olongapo City that offers Bachelor of Science in Social Work;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Marey Beth D. Marzan, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to enact the following Ordinance


ORDINANCE NO. 48
(Series of 2007)

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE IV OF ORDINANCE NO. 36, SERIES OF 2004 ENTITLED “AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE REVISIONS ON THE LEGAL BASIS FOR THE CREATION AND OPERATION OF THE OLONGAPO CITY COLLEGES” NOW NAMED AS GORDON COLLEGE

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE SANGGUNIANG PANLUNGSOD IN SESSION ASSEMBLED, THAT:

SECTION 1. The course Bachelor of Science in Social Work be included in Article IV of the aforesaid Ordinance which details the curriculum offered at the Gordon College.

SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.

WHEREAS, Article IV of Ordinance No. 36, Series of 2004 provides the courses offered at the city-owned and operated Gordon College;

WHEREAS, with the entry of Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC), Incorporated, an international shipyard company to operate at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, a huge opportunity for the employment of skilled workers from the City of Olongapo and nearby towns is now open;

WHEREAS, aside from skilled workers, HHIC looks ahead on accepting graduates with knowledge on specialized technology in shipbuilding;

WHEREAS, with this development it is but timely for the Gordon College to introduce such new technology and offer courses that will directly fill-in the great demand for employment at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone;

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Councilor Edwin J. Piano, with the unanimous accord of the Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod present;

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in session assembled, to enact the following Ordinance:
